| Summary | 0003998: MIDI editing should obey channel selector | ||||
| Description | (hope this is the correct place for suggestions, if not tell me) I've been trying out some of the midi editing capabilities Ardour3 and have these comments. I notice that if you import a midi file with more than one channel it ends up in one track. Perhaps there should be an option to put channels in separate tracks? I decided that the best way to edit multiple channels in one track is to select "None" button which selects no midi channels, causing notes to be drawn in outline, and then to select a specific channel, causing the notes in that channel to turn green. Of course if you select multiple channels all the channel notes turn green which makes editing confusing, but useful to play only selected channels. Editing operations seem to work on all channels, e.g. shift-click selects all notes between 2 notes on all channels. Well, this could be useful for some cases (like transposing everything), but not useful if you only want to work on a single channel. I would think it would be best to have the editing functions only work on the selected channels which gives complete flexibility. I also do not understand the coloring of the midi channel buttons. Often when I move a mouse over them they turn various shades of grey which is confusing and I assume is a bug. | ||||

Edward: Thanks for your feedback on A3 but there's actually only really one new issue/ request here so I would recommend one of the admins rename this as 'MIDI editing should obey channel selector' or similar, which I agree would be useful. In future could you file each bug or request separately please. As for the other points you raise: MIDI import seems plain broken to me atm so I've just filed it as a new, separate bug report: http://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=4000 Next time you try importing MIDI you will notice that there is already an option (Under 'Mapping') to import one track per file or one track per channel. As for the colouring of the MIDI channel buttons, I reported that here: http://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=3772 |
