| Summary | 0010114: Bottom Dock - Setting to only show when items are selected | ||||
| Description | This is another suggestion where developers would have to decide if this should be the default behavior, but again I will just present this to be added as a setting. Currently if you -Open session that has an Audio Track with an audio region -Turn on Bottom Dock section -Activate `Grab Mode` -Click on (select) Audio region -Bottom Dock opens by itself, showing info about that region However, if you -Hit ESCAPE key or click on background area of Editor pane, to deselect that audio region -You will notice that that audio regions info still remains shown in the bottom dock even though no longer selected. To me I think this is kind of confusing (unless I am overlooking something). I am suggesting to add a setting that would allow the Bottom Dock to only show content when a single Track or Region is currently SELECTED. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So here is how the following actions would control the bottom dock -When single Track or Region is selected = show bottom dock -When nothing is selected = close bottom dock -If multiple Tracks or Regions are selected = close bottom dock (cannot show more then 1 info section at a time) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If my suggestion found here about allowing bottom dock to always remain visible is added https://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=10113 then the following behavior would be provided -When single Track or Region is selected = bottom dock shows content -When nothing is selected = bottom dock remains open but shows blank -If multiple Tracks or Regions are selected = bottom dock remains open but shows blank (in this situation could also show text indication saying that more then one selection has been made) Hopefully this is in some way helpful / worth posting Thank you to anyone who reads this | ||||

-You will notice that that audio regions info still remains shown in the bottom dock even though no longer selected. That is entirely intentional (and took quite some work to get right). The idea is to not flap the bottom panel open/closed every time you change tool or de-select. |

> I am suggesting to add a setting that would allow the Bottom Dock to only show content when a single Track or Region is currently SELECTED. This is how it worked at first and it was not usable when doing any real work, switching tools and selection. the constant closing and re-opening of the bottom pane is distracting. |
