| Description | In Ardour it is possible to add program changes. In my view, the composer doesn't know on which number a certain articulation or instrument preset is. He doesn't care about the numbers, he does care about the names of articulations / instruments/ presets. It will be more pleasant to work with if we could insert 'violin staccato' or 'preset Basssynth01' instead of a number. | ||||

this sort of naming is done by telling Ardour where to find the MIDNAM file that defines the names of the programs. MIDNAM is a widely used standard in the industry. they can be placed inside the session directory, in a directory called "patchfiles". if any are present there, then ardour will allow you to select the device type for each MIDI track and will then label all patch/bank changes with names from the MIDNAM file. we should probably allow the user to put MIDNAM files in a global location. that's the only action item on this bug. |

MIDNAM files can be put in ~/.config/ardour3/patchfiles. The patch change dialogue supports MIDNAM files now, too. |
