0010349: ardour 9.5 stop after double click region

I launch a session already built with ardou 9.5 with a kde neon that uses x11.
I double click on a region lunch. it opens a window piano roll that works very well.
Then I close this window/
I double click on an audio region.
At this moment, and there ardour freeze.
then ardour turns off and the following message appears: "La commande /opt/Ardour-9.5.0/bin/ardour-9.5.0 a rencontré une erreur fatale et s'est terminée. "
this bug is reproducible every time by following this approach

EDIT : In fact after closing the piano roll midi window, a simple click on an audio region makes freezer ardour

on one of my lunchtime tracks of a session with ardour 9.5, the callage of the beginning of the midi track is offset by a quarter measurement compared to the midi track.
This only happens on one of the 2 midi tracks. the second track is well synchronized

0010335: Plugin Window - Replace the on off button

Plugin GUI windows contain a toolbar at the top.
On the right side of this toolbar is a large "reverse" on/off button which can be kind of a confusing approach.
(Only reason I can think of is that maybe this was done this way because green light being "on" was maybe distracting?)

Suggesting to replace this current on-off button/icon with just a square or rectangle (if want to keep the same size as existing) button instead.

This button will not have an icon, only a centered round green led light that is "on" = green, to mimic the on/off led circles shown at left side of plugin buttons in Mixer channel effect chains.

This button will no longer have "reverse" behavior, instead will use the following
On = Green Light
Off = Faded green/black

0010347: Playhead leaves loop range on cue page MIDI editor.

If you edit a running MIDI loop on the cue page, the playhead sometimes leaves the loop.

This seems to happen if you make changes to the MIDI on a spot that was already passed by the playhead during the loop.

The result is a stuck MIDI note and the playhead leaves the loop range.

0010348: MIDI Chase Playback causes note at beginning of region to drone

When a MIDI note is drawn at the start of a region, and the playhead is at the start of the region, playback causes the note to drone until the playback ends. When moving the playhead elsewhere (snap is off), playback proceeds as expected.

The zoom focus continues acting like it's on the 'left' preset, whichever option I choose instead. Reproduced in both the pianoroll window and the bottom pane.

0010343: Piano Roll Window - Zoom focus still does not work

I mentioned similar things about this in the past and seems to still not work?

In MIDI track, if you double click on region it opens the Piano Roll window.
To me the `Zoom Focus` still does not feel like it is working correctly?
I do not think any of the states are working correctly, but to use example.
Using the `Mouse` option from this drop down I believe is suppose to zoom in/out where the cursor is located.
For me it sends the MIDI notes to the right, out of view, when zooming in.

If anyone can check this out and verify.

I can connect my MIDI controler (Behringer UMX250) with Ardour, then I can link with MIDI learn to Charlatan virual synth. But the “Frequency” knob of the Filters moves erratically. This behaviour doesn't appear in Carla (standalone) and Qtractor.

I thought of this idea when I came across a possible bug that shows a very close vertical zoom state that is not supported by default.

First part of this suggestion is to offer a closer vertical zoomed in state then is currently supported (as experienced in the issue posts mentioned above)

(Because not all users might want to have such a zoomed in vertical state be possible)
The next part of this suggestion would be to offer minimum and maximum vertical zoom state settings that user can change based on their preferences.

If this does get added I would consider making separate settings for the 2 piano rolls available

I would also consider adding settings that would allow user to set the default vertical zoom state used when opening either of the 2 piano rolls available

I am sure this is going to be worth the time but
This goes with my overall theme of suggesting to make certain specific floating windows within Ardour follow common functionality / behavior as most other applications do.

This is a response to the following post

Suggesting the following updates which common search/filter fields use....

-Use left justified text when English language is used for application because text is read from left to right.
Even if language is not a factor, I have never seen an application use right justify for any fields.

-Magnifying glass icon
Often used/shown on left side of the field, giving user the indication that it is a search field. Typically the text in the field is not right up against the icon because that would be confusing, there should be a couple characters of space in between the icon / text.
(This icon should remain visible all the time, currently it disappears when focus is applied to field which is confusing)
(Also magnifying icons are typically not used as a clear field button, which also does not make sense which I will mention below)

-Field also often contains the "Search..." text within the field as another indicator that it is a search field. (Which Ardour currently does)

-When text is typed into a search field, an "x" icons is often placed at the right side, that when clicked on clears the text from the field.
Currently magnifying glass is programmed to achieve this but it is not expected common behavior. The magnifying glass is also not visible when the field has focus, so cannot clear the field unless you click outside of the pane to then reveal the icon.
Again this is not common behavior.

Hope this was worth the time/effort to create this post.

0010341: Mixer - Bus Tracks - Flashing Show Sends button

Theme: `dark` default

In the Mixer, Bus tracks have a blue button that says `Show Sends`
If you click on this button, it filters out mixer channels, only showing channels.

When this is done, the blue `Show Sends` button flashes.
This is a difficult thing to portray to user, so I understand that flashing button serves a purpose, but once user is aware of this behavior, to me this flashing button is distracting.

I would say to remove this flashing effect in general but again probably serves purpose.

So if that is not agreed with, I would say to consider including it in the `Preferences - Appearance`
`Avoid strongly/blinking/flashing elements`
setting
where so users can turn this off if desired.

This might be too specific but I came across/was thinking about this when I noticed this issue mentioned here

I was thinking, if the `Track & Bus visibility` is currently the active view in the left sidebar.
Maybe it could update based on the bus tracks `Show Sends` button being active?

Maybe the Bus tracks name in the `Tracks` sidebar list would highlight, indicating to the user that bus track is showing sends.
All the tracks/mixer channels that are currently being hidden would be unchecked (and maybe grayed out because they cannot be interacted with in this `Show Sends` mode)
If these unchecked tracks were grayed out, this would make the current tracks that are being sent to that Bus track stand out to the user.

The `Tracks` section has its own context menu.
Could add an item to the bottom to
Turn off Bus tracks `Show Sends` mode.

Again just randomly thought this when analyzing the linked issue I came across.
If this is too specific / too complicated to achieve / not agreed with, can close this suggestion.

0010339: double click on region : add entry to : edit in separate window

in the preferences > editor tab > double click zooms to selection,
would be handy to have a choice between 'double click zooms to selection' and 'edit in separate window'.

Ideally that if a midi region is double clicked, the separate window for midi editing the region is opened,
and in case an audio region is double clicked, an application of choice would be opened with the audio from the region loaded for editing the audio and when saved the edited audio would be reloaded into the audio region.

0010340: drop-n and inversions in chord editing apply to several chords if in internal edit mode

It isn't seldom in pianoroll or bottom pane to have a certain chord a few times in one bar, and if i want to apply either one of the drop-number or apply an inversion, i (seem to) have to do it for each chord, one after the other.
Depending on usecase it can be quite timeconsuming, and just "drop 2 " for all chords in the selected region would be nice.
I am not sure if it is even possible, and easily possible to implement, if not, sorry.

0010331: Plugins : file manager or dialog boxes don't open

I can't use some plugins (LV2/VST3/VST2) because dialog boxes don't appears.
For example Decent Sampler, Helm.

Plugins that use their own GUI dialog boxes are not affected, issue is with OS boxes (Mint Cinnamon here)

I have no problem using Carla or Reaper.
It was working before, but I can't remember if there was an update of Ardour or OS.

Hi All,

Recently built Ardour from source, works great, but when the Contour ShuttlePro V2 is connected, Ardour crashes on exit:

../libusb/os/threads_posix.h:46: usbi_mutex_lock: Assertion `pthread_mutex_lock(mutex) == 0' failed.

We had similar issues with wfview (an open source project I work on). The fix is to flush any transfers and then release the interface in a specific order.

I noticed that in Editor track boxes, minor width adjustments are made based on the different track types.
It appears that this occurs based on the vertical meter sizes used by each track type.

0010106: Application Bar - Action Buttons - Button size and icon issues

In the past I have noticed occasional issues with odd size of "Action Buttons" 1 and 2.
Not sure if fixed or not.
The widths of the buttons at one time showed up narrower then buttons 3 and 4.
And also their numbers 1 and 2 were smaller and in bottom right corner of button as oppose to being centered like they usually are.

I have not seen this recently but just mentioning because I have had the following issue occur where certain icons appear larger then the buttons they are in.
For example the "List Plugins" icon, the arrow on the right side of the icon goes over the buttons right edge.

0010337: Clock - Add rectangle under clocks

By default the new layout of the main toolbar now shows two clocks in the middle
`Bars:Beats` | `Timecode`

The `Bars:Beats` shows two buttons under it, for tempo and time signature.
All the other clocks just show text label under them.

Not sure if anyone will care/agree, but to me this can look a little strange and unbalanced visually.

Depending if it looks good when added, I am suggesting to maybe consider putting a "fake button" or just a rounded corner rectangle outline that looks like the other two buttons, around the text that appears under all the other clocks.
Would basically look like the two buttons under `Bars:Beats`, but connected in middle, making it one button the full width of the clock graphic above.

Could balance out the appearance of the two clocks that are centered at the top of the GUI.
Not sure if anyone would agree with this?

In the past I also made a similar post about possible updates to the clocks if anyone is interested.

Probably not much that can be done about this but
I noticed that if you have some MIDI tracks in a project, where some have increased track heights (which reveals the tracks piano roll), that the other track box widths appear visually confusing.

0010333: Ardour (GDB) 9.3 crashes

Version installed is latest build Ardour-9.3.0-dbg-w64-Setup.exe

I wanted to report a different crash behavior so I tried to reproduce it with Ardour9 GBD - but this crashes at startup.

If I start "Ardour9 GDB" it crashes on startup. Only the Icon is shown.

If I start "Ardour" (i.e. "C:\Program Files\Ardour9\bin\Ardour.exe") then Ardour Window with Edit view is shown.

Please advise if I messed up something.

1. Open multiple regions with different length in either the pianoroll window or the bottom pane in the Editor.
2. Press and hold Shift, scroll the mouse wheel to scroll the view to the right. At some point, bar/beat marks will start disappearing and then reappear as you scroll back to the left

0010332: Lots of crashes when importing PT sessions and or archiving a session

I'm having issues with these operations like 50% of the time. In some cases (importing PT session) always failing. To note that I'm working with the same sample rate etc of the session I'm importing, also crashed once while importing audio (consolidated tracks of a session). The archiving was intended using FLAC. I've noticed less stability in general for this 9.2 version. My computer knowledge is limited, but I guess this can be reproduced / improved. Ihope the log files help. Thank you
