Summary 0002426: Polish (possibly other langs) characters bug
Description I’m using ardour2 with polish interface language. In qjackctl inputs of ardour are named like on screen from attached file

When i’m tying to connect other software/hardware to ardour2 then jack displays error:

unknown destination port in attempted connection [ardour:g³wna/wejcie 1]

I think, it’s problem with this bad encoding od polish characters.

Without working inputs ardour is useless for my studio.
Additional Information Ardour 2.5 from debian repository
qjackctl 0.3.2 form debian repository

Can you confirm that this is still an issue for 2.7 for me? Thanks.

Resolving the issue due to the long period of time with no response.

Same for me in 2.8.2 from Fedora 10 repos, in french. Major problem is that it's impossible to connect/disconnect anything in jack (qjackctl 0.3.4)
Version:
ardour-2.8.2-2.fc10

this problem was explicitly fixed in 2.8.3 as a quick survey of the release notes would show:

* "in" and "out" as part of a port name should not be translatable by default, since it will break session portability. French & Polish users who need to get old sessions that have these names translated and need to keep them working should set the environment variable ARDOUR_RETAIN_PORT_NAME_SUFFIX_TRANSLATION to force old behaviour.

It appears that this is now fixed. Please re-open if there are still problems.
