Summary0009751: PreSonus Faderport V2 (2018) fader is inaccurate
DescriptionThe scale of the hardware fader does not match with the software. -50 on the hardware maps to -60 on the software, +5 hw to +3.5 sw.
When I switch tracks, the fader moves but it's slightly off, making the actual level jump as soon as I touch it.
I have searched around but found no way to calibrate it
Steps To ReproduceI set a track to 0 and another to -30 with the mouse. The first track will move the physical fader to just below 0, the second to slightly above -30.
When switching back to the first track the fader will move up to the same position, but as soon as I touch it the level jumps to -0.9.
Going back to the second track, barely touching the fader will make the level jump to -27.6
Repeating the process back and forth will accumulate these offsets.

That is expected. Ardour's fader range maxes out at +6dB.
The faderport's range is goes up to +10.

Then again for pretty much all ctrl surfaces the faceplace is more or less just a hint and not accurate.

I could live with the faceplate not matching if it was consistent, the real problem is the misalignment and unreliability. If selecting a track will only move the fader to the general area where it should be and as soon as I touch it the level jumps several db I'd be better off with a passive fader and soft takeover. I'm surprised there's no way to calibrate the fader...
But then again, if this is how it works for everyone I'll just suck it up I guess

I don't have this experience here with the Faderport8 when banking.

PS. Faderport8 has a calibration mode.

This is a Faderport V2, which is the single fader device. I just tested it on a different machine (same distro, Manjaro) and it does the same, when switching to a different track and then coming back it never moves to the level that was set before, and so as soon as you touch the fader it jumps. Perhaps this is a defective unit, or the driver is messed up, either way the device is unusable. I'll return it to the guy who (thankfully) has let me try it before I buy it from him.
Thank you anyway!
