Summary0009579: Drawing new notes in the piano roll triggers multiple note on/off events
DescriptionWhen drawing new notes with the mouse in the piano roll, more than one note on/off event is generated.
This is easy to hear when programming note sequences for a synth playing a simple waveform rich in harmonics.
I discovered this with the SurgeXT synthesizer set to the default "Init Saw" patch.
Imagine you do melody first and sound design after.
Steps To ReproduceStart with an empty session, set to musical time.

1. Add a MIDI track and choose the SurgeXT synthesizer. (I used the VST3 version)
2. Add the ACE MIDI Monitor to the same track.
3. Create a new region to Draw notes in.
4. Draw one note.

Expected result:
One note off event followed by one note on event

Actual result:
Two note on events followed by four note off events.
Additional InformationYou can confirm this behavour is happening outside of Ardour using The Drumstick MIDI monitor by feeding it with the MIDI out port for the SurgeXT track.

1. Install Drumstick MIDI Monitor.
2. Launch Drumstick MIDI Monitor, it starts up in recording mode by default.
3. Connect the "SurgeXT/midi_out 1" port to the input of "Kmidimon" port in your patchbay. (I use qpwgraph)
4. Draw one note in the piano roll.

Ardour version: 8,2 official release "Tracks and Traces" Intel 64-bit - debug
Ardour launched from Konsole, with the "-n" flag.
OS: Arch Linux

for us to take further action with this, you would need to show it affects things other than a post-Surge XT situation.

I just tried it with the builtin GM synth and there is no doubled note in the MIDI monitor placed after it.
