Summary0009496: Saving 'Snapshot and keep working on current version' regularly crashes.
DescriptionI noticed this after I put in several patch changes in my tracks. I am using the new arpeggiator plugins and a Cardinal FX bus. The project can be saved reliably using the straight 'Save' option.
I was going to upload my project but is now too large, even compressed into a zip file. The size of the project is, I think, down to the output of one track with an arpeggiator being fed into a bus. The bus also has an arpeggiator in it. This might be a terrible idea as far as the software goes but I like the sound it produces - and so is probably a good contender for the cause of the crashing.
I had some idea that the crashes were to do with an inconsistency with how the software adds patch changes - which I flagged earlier.

Is there anything in %localappdata%\Ardour8\CrashLog\ ?

Does this only happen when there are any MIDI tracks in the session?

All tracks are midi apart from the fx bus

I just checked and with Ardour 8.1 on Windows 7 and with a simple session a MIDI track, general MIDI synth and a MIDI region it work fine.

To track things down..

Does it also happen in a new session?
Does it happen if there are only audio tracks?
Does it happen in every session that has at least 1 MIDI track?

It could also be caused to [synth] plugins?!

Do you have a session where snapshot & keep working crashes reliably? Can you share/upload that session?

I did have a lot of patch changes in single tracks and I was suspicious that that was causing a problem. I have deleted all of the patch changes and put the different instruments in different tracks instead. I think that this has fixed the problem for me. I am happy to send a copy of the project with the problem. It is about 15 mbytes compressed so it won't upload here.

I think I have got around this issue (as described in my last reply) but going through the replies I saw the request for a crash log. I'm sorry I haven't sent this before. Here are all of my crashlogs for this project. Thanks for your help.

I managed to copy this from the log before a snapshot crash just now....
