Summary | 0009436: Channel input/ouput selection unresponsive
Description | The issue is when trying to set inputs or outputs for any channel including master. The green circle shows when hovering over any of the boxes but will not stay set when clicked. They are all currently showing as unset but some of them are still. I have a template where a certain channel was connected and one was not. Both behave as they did when they were set up but are now showing as unset. This issue is also true of the quick select box just above the plugin section of the channel. So the i/o is working but cannot be manually changed. This is the case in new/old sessions and templates or new blank sessions. Nothing freezes up or crashes from this it just does not react correctly. Issue only started maybe a few days ago, not sure what changed.

I also started getting this bug as of a few days ago. I'm curious if @user73845 is using pipewire and if so, is it version 3.78? It was released on the day this issue was filed. I found that by downgrading pipewire to 3.77 (on Arch Linux) both issues disappeared. Input and output boxes of channels correctly show what they are connected to, and the routing grid correctly shows the green circles. Presumably this is a pipewire bug, and I'm happy to file an issue in their tracker, but I'm also happy to run any commands against the 2 pipewire versions if it would yield any helpful info for the Ardour devs. |

@night_generator Looks like it is currently on 3.77. I have found that the issue does not continue when switching the audio system from Jack to pulseaudio or alsa in the audio/midi setup window. So could be pipewire but at least some part of Jack it would seem |
|
Oh very interesting that you see it on 3.77. Pipewire is implementing/providing both JACK and pulse, so it seems like you may have narrowed it down to the pipewire-jack plugin. I think the freedesktop.org gitlab/issue-tracker is undergoing maintenance so I can't yet link to docs or file an issue, but hopefully soon enough this can get figured out. |

A similar issue was already filed in the pipewire issue tracker for Guitarix, so left a comment that its also affecting Ardour https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/3472 The fix was already committed, but just hadn't made it to a release yet. This morning 3.79 was released to get that fix out. I'll test and report back once it is available in Arch https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/releases/0.3.79 |
|
I confirmed this issue is fixed on pipewire v0.3.79 |
