Summary0008475: Editing automations with Range-Tool
DescriptionSince Ardour 6.x the editing auf automation lanes with the Range-Tool does not work anymore. I cannot describe it well therefore here the reference to a Mixbus Turorial Video from minute 4:40: https://youtu.be/ZA8Hm_66WSQ?t=280

Selecting automations with the Range tool works, but moving them afterwards with the Draw tool does not.

Hi, on Ardour 6.5 I have experienced the same issue only in one particular session. However I'm not able to tell why this is happening yet. I tested other old projects and the tool works fine, even in new projects/sessions. I also checked Session Properties (Alt+O) for something that could affect this particular session, changed Edit Modes and Points, but couldn’t find anything significant. It affects all tracks on that session.
Just in case, the tool only works using the Draw Mode, not the Internal Edit Mode.
One thing to have in mind is that Ardour version which files were created doesn't seem to be related to this issue.
Does this happens to you on all sessions?

This is a very strange behavior. I have tried it in my 5 current projects. In one of them the editing of automation lines with the Range and Draw tool worked. In the other 4 it did not work. I can mark an area of automation with the Range tool, but then when I switch to the Draw tool, the mark is removed and I can only draw new points.

I opened a new empty project, created several tracks and loaded several plugins and tried to reproduce the behaviour. Unfortunately I did not succeed. But I noticed another bug that might be related to this one:

When I first mark a range with the Range Tool and then move it with the Draw Tool everything works as it should. If I then mark a range within this range again with the Range tool and then move it with the Draw tool, the two outer new points will jump either all the way down or (more rarely) slightly up. I hope you can follow this with the screenshots. I haven't updated yet and tested it with Ardour 6.3 on Ubuntu 20.4.

> I can mark an area of automation with the Range tool, but then when I switch to the Draw tool, the mark is removed and I can only draw new points.

That's precisely what I've also experienced. However, I tried again with the same "buggy" session and it works as expected (i.e. select a range and then with Draw Mode change the automation or gain curves). So I have no clues about what was going on before.

If I then mark a range within this range again with the Range tool and then move it with the Draw tool, the two outer new points will jump either all the way down or (more rarely) slightly up.

I can reproduce this other issue on version 6.5 from ardour.org
