| Summary | 0007594: Make MIDI region copies independent by default | ||||
| Description | One thing I always have to do for fresh Ardour installations is go to my Session Properties and enable "MIDI region copies are Independent". When it is enabled creating uinked copies requires a lot of menu-diving and almost always causes data loss - I copy some region, made changes and find out later that the original region is also changed and I need to reconstruct it from memory. I also always warn new users about this, and I thought maybe it's a good idea to disable this by default. | ||||

This has been discussed in the past. There is no correct default. It is a 50/50 game and the correct setting depends on your workflow and style of music. However, you can always unlink regions after the fact, but you cannot re-link regions once they're unlinked. Hence linked by default is the better and saver default for new installations. |

Maybe a default hotkey for unlinking MIDI regions would be a good option? |
