Summary0007182: To limit or switch off sound, when few MIDI notes are selected
Description Ardour has a useful possibility to sound selected MIDI notes. This mode can be activated here:

 Preferences>MIDI>MIDI Preferences>

"Sound MIDI notes as they are selected in the editor".

 This mode works fine with single notes, but when we select several notes - they sound together (volume level summary!). If, for example, we have about 20 notes in a region and press Ctrl+A (to select all of them) - it produces an impermissible level of sound.
 The proposal is:
-to make a level limitation for several notes sounding;
-or to switch off the sounding of the selected group of notes at all;
-or to sound the first note of the selected note group.

One extra thought:
-to sound the note which we pick during dragging the group.

This was addressed in Ardour 6.3 (August 2020)
    Special case MIDI note selection auditioning - 0008358

    This adds a few exceptions to the general preference
    "Sound MIDI notes as they are being selected in the editor".

    * Select all no longer plays _all_ notes.
    * Remain silent when selection is inverted or a range is selected
    * Play no sound when a saved selection is restored on session load.

A "level limitation for several notes sounding" would have to happen by the synth. unconditionally adding a Limiter is not an option either.
"or to sound the first note of the selected note group." This seems wrong when selecting chords.

I intend to put a 12 note limit in place. It might not be the 12 notes you intend, but that's life.
