Summary0000716: import of multi-mono files to a stereo track
DescriptionIt would be good to be able to import multiple mono files into Ardour directly as a stereo region. Pro Tools allows this. Further, Pro Tools saves all data on disk as multi-mono files, so this feature would facilite brings PT data into Ardour more quickly and easily without wasting time or disk space.
Additional InformationIf you go to the import audio menu item in the Regions/name area and choose two files with similar names in the following format:

file_name.L.wav
file_name.R.wav

then (Assuming same length, bit depth, sample rate & format) Ardour should import them as a single stereo region. If you choose only one then Ardour should only import only that one file as a mono file. Something should identify the stereo vs. mono files in the regions/name list. You should then be able to drag a stereo file to a stereo track.

For added functionality, give people an option to take one part of a multiple channel (Stereo, 5.1, etc.) file and drag it to a mono track.

Should work with multichannel files as well, i.e. combining 9 mono samples on one multichannel trac (e.g. for ambisonics)...

this is actually implemented for embed (not import) in 2.0. select both files in the selector, and you will get a stereo track+region or region based on both.

no support for > stereo at present.

hmm, should probably be left open because of that.
