| Summary | 0000707: 0.9beta19 crashes when trying to edit plugin | ||||
| Description | This appears to be the same problem as http://ardour.org/mantis/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000584 However in this case it's 0.9beta19 and a binary rpm for FC1 from planet ccrma. Previous binary rpm from planet ccrma (0.9beta11.2) worked fine (at least this feature did). 0000584 bug resolution seems to suggest it's a bad binary, but perhaps it's unusual to have them bad several versions in a row? | ||||
| Additional Information | did not attempt to repro it in an install built from source because it's way too much effort to get that to work when the whole system was built from rpm binaries. | ||||

What plugins were you using that crash? |
|
|
does not seem to matter which plugin... opening ANY plugin (that i've tried) crashes it. I've tried dozens. |

Using Debian's 0.9beta19 I get crashes with numerous plugins. Examples I can remember are Single and Triple Parametric EQ. Freeverb is an example of one that does work in my setup. You might want to try that, krash. |

OK, I quickly tired of trying plugins because every single one caused a crash. After going down about 10 in a row (I have maybe 30 or so installed) I gave up. I did try Freeverb 3 from the CMT package and it also crashes Ardour in the same way. I also tried the RH9 binary RPM from planet CCRMA (my system is FC1) and the FC1 version. Both crash the same way. I may try the FC2 binary from planet ccrma and see if it works. Assuming of course it's a compile problem as alluded to in the previous related bug. I would install this from source but it won't build because it says there are libraries it can't find. It is just way too much work to go rebuild all of those libraries from source so Ardour will stop complaining. edited on: 09-27-04 22:35 |

Just a note: I _can_ add plugins to tracks. I can also copy a plugin from one track and paste it into another and it comes in apparently complete with settings. I suspect I could also manually edit the xml file and make plugin settings. This is on projects that were imported from beta11 Ardour projects. Plugins that were previously in these tracks before importing them continue to work as expected. So I suspect this is a problem with kicking off the gui/editor for the plugins and not with the plugins themselves. Any suggestions on working around this (other than rebuilding the majority of my system from source) will be seriously appreciated. |

i know that its fair to you folks to mark this resolved, but every indication is that the problem is with the binary build you have installed. its not possible to have ardour.org's mantis tracker be used for problems in specific distributions or builds, so i will do this now. if anyone comes up with any indication that this issue is present in builds made from source, we will shift this back to an open bug again. crash bugs are our most serious category, and i don't want to see the list of them expanded by issues that we can't control. thanks for your understanding. |
