Added a second mockup which shows a perfect state in terms of usability - "controls never move" - probably post gtk2 (tracklist should move to tabbed notebook), it shows a toggled mixer strip button on third track and the second track selected to demonstrate the proposed changes visually. Moreover, dual/triple head users might consider to disable this feature entirely which would result in increased canvas width - mixer strip buttons going away entirely, narrower track headers. |

it would also be nice if the editor mixer strip stayed in the normal (as opposed to narrow) view all the time, regardless of the setting in the mixer. currently, when you click through several tracks whose mixer strips have different width in the mixer view, the editor window border jumps around in a very irritating way. the rest of this ticket looks like it could be marked as "resolved", iiuc. |

First part of the ticket is old and reported fixed. Second part (editor mixer width jumping around) is fixed for 3.0 in SVN rev. 5810. |
