Summary0006686: Always-on-top status indicator
DescriptionArdour is a great tool for recording. I use it to make gameplay videos, recording both the computer audio and my voice. However, occationally Ardour fails to record, stops at a certain time if my configuration is wrong, or crashes. When I record fullscreen gameplays, I can only find this out when I have already recorded for an hour of work, and --- there is no audio recorded. I think it would be nice to just add a simple status indicator at the corner of screen: even a few pixels showing red/green may work.

I think if this feature will ever be implemented, it needs to be in Ardour since I don't see another way to monitor whether Ardour is recording. Otherwise, an external tool may help

first things first. Arodur should not stop recording by itself, unless

Edit > Preferences > Transport > "Stop recording when xrun occurs"
Edit > Preferences > Transport > "Stop at the end of the session"

is enabled (both are off by default). Is that the case on your setup?

A tally-light is not a bad idea. Maybe something to add to the Window > Big clock in the corner.

Meanwhile you could hack yourself a solution using e.g MMC (midi machine control). One can also query various states using OSC. individual track record enable is exposed there.
