| Summary | 0006618: strange solo behavior: click solo button -> no sound | ||||
| Description | ardour 4.2.0: after clicking the solo button on a track, at first playback is silent (as if the track was empty). this seems to happen for the first time, after un-soloing the track and soloing it again it plays normally. how to reproduce: 1. create new session 2. import couple of waw files as new tracks 3. solo one of them (SiP mode) 4. press play -> playhead is moving, but no sound (4. and 5. - it behaves the same vice versa - ie. pressing she solo button during playback also results in no sound) 5. click solo again to deselect it (all tracks are playing normally) 6. solo it again -> soloed track plays normally it doesn't crash nor block the session so i marked the severity as minor, but still quite annoying, before you figure out it is a bug, it can lead to uselessly deleted takes by considering them corrupt/too quiet/wrongly recorded etc. | ||||

This may be completely unrelated, but I'm curious... What happens if, after step 4 (playhead moving, solo engaged, no sound through monitor), you click the metering-point button for the track, and cycle through the choices? Do you get any sound? I've seen a problem (bug ID 0005803) where switching from Solo to PFL mode, then clicking PFL button on a track gives solo output instead of PFL, until the metering-point button is clicked the first time. After that it works fine, as long as Ardour stays open. I haven't seen problems the other way around (PFL first, then switch to Solo) but that's why I'm curious. Does your symptom happen only on newly-added tracks/regions, or on existing ones as well? (So after your step 6, if you save, exit and restart Ardour on the same session, do you see the problem again on the first attempt to play? |

I didn't check with 4.2 but I can not reproduce this with Ardour 4.4. Solo logic has been overhauled since 4.2 chances are that this was fixed. Could you please verify if the issue still exists? |

with 4.4.0, the issue is away, thanks |
