Summary0005824: Region names hard to read
DescriptionRegion names are often hard to read, especially on high-resolution monitors viewed from two or three feet away. It would be nice if something were done to make region names in tracks more legible, such as making the region name bar black and the text white regardless of the region or track color.

This should be much improved in the cairocanvas branch, where much better logic for contrasting color selection is in use. It will become the new "master" (release) branch after the next Ardour release.

I believe this is still an issue as of master@48b904fc or a Nightly build 4.2.455

I'm not sure what it was like when this bug was submitted but the cairocanvas branch has been merged for a while now.
