| Summary | 0005357: Text entry on fader and control values in A3 needs an extra step compared with A2 | ||||
| Description | Text entry on fader and control values in A3 needs to be highlighted by swiping it with the mouse rather than just clicked on as in A2, in order to remain active when the mouse cursor moves off the text field. As I often set these things by text entry it's a major slowdown to my work flow. It also leads to errors when I forget and carry on typing in numbers after failing to spot that the cursor has moved off the text field, leading to much gnashing of teeth and hair tearing. | ||||

I can't reproduce this here. Simply clicking that entry (and several others) selects the text, and typing immediately replaces it. |

In A2 the text stays selected until I hit Enter, regardless of where the mouse gets moved to once I've clicked on the text field. In A3 the text becomes unselected if the mouse moves before I finish typing. Swiping with the mouse appears to make it stay selected for larger movements, but if it gets moved far enough the text still becomes unselected. The problem is that it doesn't wait until Enter is typed, but unselects the text automatically if the mouse gets knocked to a different position. (I should probably have used a better title for the bug report). |

nope, can't see that either. what WM and desktop environment do you use? is this self-built a bundle from ardour.org? |
|
|
I'm using WindowMaker (no GNOME or KDE). I compiled A3 from svn rev14063 on Debian testing amd64. It's possible that it's WMaker. I'll check the WM config files and report back. |

Don't think it's WM, but could be pilot error. When adjusting a fader by text entry I was knocking the mouse onto the pan control sometimes, which causes the text to become unselected. Move it anywhere else and it stays selected until Enter is typed. So it's not necessarily a bug, just new behaviour in A3 compared with A2. If you want to close this report please do (and sorry for the false alarm). |

Worth noting that if you want to rename multiple tracks in a row, you use tab in between, rather than enter. |
