Summary0005343: ardour looses connection from jack
Description- arch linux
- ardour 2.8.14 & 2.8.16 (bug might be present in earlier versions as well)
- jackd version 0.121.3 tmpdir /dev/shm protocol 24

When I start Ardour and press play, ardour often immediatly disconnects from jack(the audio ports disappear). When I try to reconnect, I see that the gui doesn't know ardour has been disconnected, e.g. when I hover over the menu, the disconnect button lights up. But pressing disconnect and connect after that doesn't work. It is impossible to reconnect to jack. I've seen many cases as well though, where I was able to press play once (ardour plays), press stop, and only after I pressed play for the second time, ardour disconnected (that seemed to be a repeating pattern as well). The strange thing is, that when only using the spacebar to start and stop ardour, ardour doesn't disconnect, and everything seems to work as expected.

I would like to make it more clear that this bug hits me every time I try to use ardour2, and always after I hit the play and stop buttons 1 or 2 times.

Update:

When I do a fresh reboot, it takes longer for the bug to trigger (I can press the play and stop buttons for a while). Once it is triggered, it stays. By that I mean that bug is triggered almost immediatly after I restart the ardour session.
And when I restart jackd, it doesn't seem to affect this.

and another update:

when starting jack from command line with
jackd -R -d alsa -p 512 -r 48000 &

I can see this output from jack:

subgraph starting at ardour timed out (subgraph_wait_fd=9, status = 0, state = Running, pollret = 0 revents = 0x0)
bad status (-1) for client ardour handling event (type = 8)
**** alsa_pcm: xrun of at least 0.516 msecs
