Summary0004866: Session file becomes terminally corrupted when aux-send is used between a midi track and a bus
DescriptionAfter having recorded a song, and having originally set up my sends and connections manually (Claudia/Ladish), I then re-configured all sends as aux-sends. This was fine until I went to create an aux-send on a midi track at which point Ardour crashed and closed, and that Ardour file will no longer open.

I recreated this in a new Ardour session with the same results. If aux-sends are not appropriate for midi tracks for some reason then the option to add them should be removed. Otherwise this is a fairly big issue.

For clarification, my version is 3.0 (SVN) Alpha2.

On further consideration, this may not be an issue many people come across. In my experimentation and inexperience I forgot what comes between Ardour midi tracks and their busses: the synth. Connecting midi tracks to busses OBVIOUSLY is pointless and I suspect that this is what confuses Ardour to the point of crashing. I've just started afresh and connected midi up properly using Claudia/Ladish and no problems.

Still, if I may suggest that the 'send' and 'aux-send' feature is adjusted when users attempt to use with midi tracks - either to not allow it (I can't think of a reason anyone would, but I'm not an advanced user), or to produce a warning notification of some kind?

yes, the issue here is probably an aux-send on a MIDI track. it actually ought to work though.

Paul - I think on further inspection that aux-sends in general might be causing me problems. But it COULD be more to do with how Ardour communicates with Claudia/Ladish than being a general Ardour problem. It would be interesting to see if any non Claudia users come across this.

SVN 12549 removes the option to add aux sends from MIDI tracks, though strangely it didn't crash for me. But they don't do anything useful, I don't think, so they might as well go for now.
