| Summary | 0004595: Strange region paste behavior using ctrl-v and playhead edit point | ||||
| Description | 0 - set edit point to playhead 1 - if there are no tracks, create one (either MIDI or audio) 2 - create another track with a region (easiest to describe bug if this is same track type as in step 1) 3 - in object mode, select the region and copy region with either ctrl-c or context menu 4 - make sure the track with the region is selected 5 - move the playhead to an empty area of the track 6 - move mouse above (unselected) track from step 1 7 - use ctrl-v to paste and notice that region is pasted into track that mouse is in, NOT highlighted track | ||||
| Additional Information | not sure if this is the intended behavior but, if so, it is a strange mix of edit points. it is also weird if the copied region is audio and the mouse is over a MIDI track or vice-versa. Basically nothing happens. Also, sometimes the ctrl-v seems to result not in a paste of the region but of the selection of the track that the mouse is in. i can't figure out the exact behavioral pattern. It seems to me that if the edit point is the playhead then the user will be moving the playhead around and hitting ctrl-v, expecting the region to appear in the highlighted track, which it does if the mouse remains outside of all the tracks (even the master). If you drag the playhead while letting the mouse "drop" into the tracks (again, even over the master bus) then the behavior changes in a strange way. Another weird use case is to start with two tracks of, say, audio. Again, with edit point set to "playhead", start without either track selected. select a region in bottom tracks. ctrl-v to paste the region into bottom track, depending on which one the mouse is hovering over. note that the track becomes "selected". move the mouse to topr track and hit ctrl-v and notice that the region is copied into top track and BOTH tracks are selected. move mouse back to bottom track and hit ctrl-v and notice that region is copied into TOP track. To make matters worse, doing the same operations but from top to bottom results in different behavior. | ||||

went back and tried the same experiment in Ardour V2 . A2 is basically the same. hmm. can this really be the way playback edit point is supposed to work? |
