| Summary | 0004552: audio-search-path & midi-search-path contain absolute paths | ||||
| Description | perhaps this is not a bug, making this more of a feature request: the "audio-search-path" and "midi-search-path" now with recent builds include the absolute path for the standard Ardour <session file location>/interchange/<session name>/[audiofiles | midifiles] media search path by default. this makes a default/standard session tree not location independent. i think that it would be better to have at least the standard media search paths be based off the directory where the session file resides, and not specified with an absolute path, but with a relative path whenever possible. optimally 1) a new session would automatically use the standard media search path relative to the session file directory, and thus have no need for it to be specified in the session file .. however, this is just a matter of taste 2) any non-standard media search paths added that were "below" the session file directory would be saved in the session file as a relative path 3) only those non-standard media search paths that were not underneath the session file directory would be saved as an absolute path this would ensure that moving an entirely self contained A3 session directory (i.e. all media is located below the session file directory) would not require an edit of the session file to update absolute paths, and would work no matter where the root directory of the session was moved. | ||||

this bug (i.e. the full path of the default audio & MIDI search paths being in the session file) seems only to occur when the session directory is located in a path that includes a symlink. it is perhaps related to http://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=4568 |
