Could you be more precise about what you mean by "change one instrument plugin for another"?

Also, we now know that Ardour3 on OS X *requires* the absolute latest version of JackOSX, not (quite) released (0.89).

I had one virtual instrument loaded on a track. I called up the drop down
list used to choose plugins for that track and attempted to choose a different
virtual instrument without first removing the original one. I hope that makes
more sense. I will also try the newer version of Jack when it is released.
Do you have any idea how soon that will be?

do you happen to know what plugins you tried to use?

also, to clear up a misconception: ardour has no limit on the number of instrument plugins you can use. obviously if the first one takes MIDI as input and produces only audio, then adding another after it that takes MIDI as input is a bit non-sensical. but some instruments will do MIDI passthru, and you might preceed a MIDI-in/Audio-out plugin with a MIDI-in/Midi-out plugin (some kind of MIDI filtering).

so really you wanted to delete the existing one (point the mouse at the first instrument plugin and press "delete"), then add a new one. but we should fix whatever bug you encountered anyway.

JackOSX 0.89 should be out in a few days - check http://jackosx.com/ for news of this.

One of them was u-he Zebra 2, but I don't remember the other. With some of the DAWs I also use (Live, Studio One etc.) adding a new virtual instrument replaces the existing one. It looks like this is not the case with Ardour, but adding the new one should not have caused a crash (if I am understanding you correctly) as it is allowed. Please let me know if there is anything else you want me to check or if you need more specific information. I will also check out the new Jack version when it becomes available.

The abort that is triggered here has been removed in newer versions of A3. Do you still see this problem?

I believe this is fixed (or worked-around, at least). @rexlapin, please leave a note if you are still having problems. Thanks!
