| Summary | 0004402: monitor section forces mixer window to be higher than screen for wide master busses (16ch here) | ||||
| Description | when the mixer window is opened, the contents are higher than the window. if the window is maximised, the content is truncated at the bottom, so that the connection buttons and the horizontal scrollbar are inaccessible. if the window is de-maximised, it becomes slightly higher than the screen. now the controls are there, but the window needs to be moved up manually, at which point the title bar and the mix group headers are inaccessible. not deadly, but quite a usability issue. this is on a dual-head setup using nvidia twinview (both screens look like one virtual screen to X11). both screens have native hd resolution, so i don't see why ardour's mixer shouldn't fit (unless full-hd 16:10 is the new required minimum). i'm seeing this issue with XFCE4 and a bottom panel, regardless of whether the panel is set to auto-hide or not (this has been known to confuse other applications). | ||||
| Additional Information | i'd like to hear from others if they can reproduce this with other window managers and screen resolutions, too. maybe it's an xfce or nvidia bug after all. | ||||

if the same session (running on the same machine) is displayed on a laptop via ssh/X11 forwarding, the mixer window is still 1080 pixels high, even though the local X display is only 1280x768. the laptop is also running xfce4, but with the standard in-kernel driver for intel graphics (it's a thinkpad x201). |

the issue only crops up for users of very wide master busses. it is caused by all the cut/dim/solo/inv buttons in the monitor section taking too much space. workaround is to tear off the monitor section into a separate window by clicking on the "v! in the upper right corner of the monitor section. las has acknowledged this bug. |

|
las suggests to make the monitor section scrollable vertically. |
