Summary0000411: Graphical Peak Indicator with forced reset
DescriptionIt would be great to have a light on the top of the level that lit up when a peak was detected. It would stay lit up until the user acknowledged the peak by clicking on the light to reset it. This is similar functionality to Logic.

It is handy if you're testing levels away from the screen, you go away and play your instrument, and then coming back to Ardour, you could see if it peaked or not.

We already have one better than this. The text display just above every meter is a peak value meter, which keeps a persistent record of the max peak. It resets when clicked.

I know that that is the current behaviour, but I would like to put my opinion forward in saying that it's not as good as it could be.

What about having the peak value as it is, but say, having the box or value turn red if it hits the limit?

It would make it much more user friendly. That's why hardware that has a meter for peaks also has a peak light that lights up when it detects a peak. At a glance I can see if it peaked, not scan over each track to check the value to see whether it has peaked or not.

I've researched this a little, and it seems that DP, Sonar and Cubase as well as Logic have this behaviour.

OK, sorry it took so long for me to find this one. It was about 5 lines of code.
Just committed, but missed the beta23 release.
