BTW: I *think* most midi sequencers solve the situation by not playing any events exactly at the end of the played region, and supplying the necessary note-offs to end the overlapping notes.

The attached session demonstrates the problem that I think you are having.

I've just tried Carl's example under 9522 and it works as I expected and not as described in this report.

Anchakor?

I don't know how it works with the 9522 svn version, being unable to build Ardour from svn for reasons here irrelevant, so I leave it to judgement of others if this bug should be closed.

To clarify, the problem is the red note on the screenshot being played (and never stopping).
Another thing is that if the last of the 4 notes was longer (ending later then the end loop marker), its note off should be played when the playhead reaches end of the loop.

Hi Anchakor!

A3 has undergone a number of very significant fixes since the last alpha(4)- certainly with respect to MIDI. las admits alpha 5 is long overdue so I'm applying daily pressure trying to get him to make another release so people such as yourself can see where we're really up to now (hint hint).

Anchakor: have you been able to test any newer alphas? Do you still see this problem?

cth103: I tested alpha9 now, and the note off is always played so I consider this bug fixed.

There might be related issue, that the note is played when it is on the end of the loop region, even if it is a bit outside of it, which is not desireable - illustrated on this picture, the red not shouldn't be played at all: http://i.imgur.com/DpZbV.jpg

see notes.

a separate bug should be filed if the "note outside loop region plays when looping" issue is still a problem.
