Works for me. How precisely are you creating the track?

1. Create new session.
2. Right click on the empty part of the space reserved for track headers.
3. Select "4 Channel" as the configuration. Click add.
4. Click on the track header to show the editor mixer strip.

The resulting mixer strip does not have the panner.

this is caused by the track being set up as 4in/2out (because auto-connect-to-master was enabled)

we have no panner that can handle 4in/2out in ardour3 at present.

not sure of the correct solution for this right now.

4 in/2 out is down mixing, not panning. You have to know what the '4' implies and what the '2' implies' to know how to mix down from 4 to 2.

the point is that after you save the session and reload, the panner appeats. thus the track gui behaves differently when it is created as opposed to when it is loaded from disk.

you should check how many outputs the track has after the reload. its different. that's the real issue, i think.

True. The track becomes a 4:4 track when you reload the session.

I'm changing this to be the 2-out -> 4-out bug; the fact that we don't have a panner / whatever for this kind of track should probably be a separate feature request.
