Summary0003592: Transport stops when recording is disengaged (regression from 2.x)
DescriptionThe manual punch model in 2.x has been very fluid and intuitive to use. It has allowed to do different types of manual punches either by arming/disarming tracks or by using the "big red button" to punch multiple tracks with a single click. This has proved useful for me as different strategies are needed depending on the situation.

3.x (r8213) stops the transport when the record button is disengaged (the big red button). This effectively eliminates the strategy that allows to easily punch multiple tracks without setting up a group for that take.

It would be great if the old model could be reinstated (unless the arguments against this are stronger). I'm quite sure I will not be the only old user to miss this feature.

What is the setting of "Stop at the end of the session" in the Transport tab of Ardour Preferences? Does turning it off make any difference?

Good point. That was the cause for this behavior at the end of the session. When not rolling over the end, the big red button works as before.

One could argue that if the user has recorded over the previous end of the session, the transport should not be stopped even when recording was disarmed. But I don't think anyone will find that especially useful.
