Summary0003327: A3 Audio Setup Wizard fails to detect all ALSA interfaces
DescriptionI have a USB sound card integrated into a portable hi-fi that I make frequent use of but I can only use it if I start JACK via cli or qjackctl but not via the A3 Audio Setup Wizard.

I have attached a screenshot of the ASW from A3 7437 and a recent qjackctl svn as well as the output of cat /proc/asound/cards

I have the same problem under both Debian Squeeze and Ubuntu Lucid

I forgot to mention- my USB audio device doesn't provide any inputs and on the A3 screenshot Audio Mode is set to 'Playback/Recording on 1 device' but even if I set audio mode to 'Playback only' it doesn't make any difference- the USB card still isn't presented as an option.

The code is explicitly written to only show duplex devices in this dialogue; maybe this should be relaxed.

Paul did say that was most likely why I wasn't seeing my USB audio card on the ASW but I 100% think duplex devices need to be listed too because Ardour is still totally usable without the ability to record audio from the same device being used for output. In fact this is pretty much how we always use Ardour under Linux as the soundcard we've been using works under OSX but not Linux so we record under Ardour OSX in the studio then all the mixing is done at home under Ardour Linux, hence no full-duplex required for us under Linux 99% of the time. Add to this the fact that A3 is shaping up to be a prime time FOSS sequencer and you can also add in all those who will be primarily using A3+ as a sequencer and never (or rarely) doing any audio recording.

Fair enough. Should be fixed in SVN. Perhaps you could test?
