| Description | Hello, sorry for using the "report a bug" window for this but... maybe it is a bug! I'm contemplating changing my "Cakewalk Home Studio" that runs in windows to Ardour "Digital Audio Workstation" running in Linux. I would certainly pay for it. I appreciate the philosophy underneath it all. But, I need to make sure that the differences in features that either software has to offer makes it a beneficial change. I'm a songwriter/guitarist/vocalist. My soundcard is a maya A44 MKII by Audiotrack and my computer is a Pentium 4. I checked the basic system requirements, it seems ok... If you use the MIDI sequencing/editing/recording features of cakewalk, then ardour is not for you at this time (it does audio only; MIDI is coming). If you do mostly MIDI work, you might want to check out Rosegarden or Muse, which are MIDI sequencers with some audio capabilities. It is unclear whether or not your audio interface is supported under Linux. Support for devices of most kinds Linux is done a per-chipset basis - we don't tend to have drivers written for "branded" products. I don't know what chipset is in the maya cards; there is one other AudioTrack card (the prodigy) which uses the Envy24HT chipset (a widely used one) and this works under Linux. |
