You can use the object tool to do that. I agree though that draw gain automation should probably also work. |

Object tool?? You're right that does work for adding automation points but isn't a logical choice of icon for that function as far as I'm concerned. Draw Gain Automation should be used for this instead of the object tool but I'd rather see the draw gain icon scrapped entirely and instead we'd just have to enable 'Edit Region Contents' |

The draw gain automation tool is fixed to add automation in SVN. Thanks for the report! I think the problem with using edit region contents is that we might want to allow region gain automation for MIDI regions, so we'd lose the tool for that with your suggestion. |
