i believe that this is mostly a result of Ardour 2.X's rather unusual solo model. soloing tracks has no effects on busses or vice versa. although this has been changed in 3.0, and won't change in 2.X, it may be worth you explaining a little more of what you think should happen and contrast it with what does happen.

the current model is over-influenced by considerations of busses used for live fx processing, and that was probably a mistake.

Hi,

I'm trying to remember the exact situation where I became aware of this.

I had about 10 tracks routed into a bus that had a compressor plug-in and an EQ inserted on it. I wanted to bounce the result of the bus only without the rest of the mix, and I thought this would be easily achievable by just soloing that bus, which didn't work. So I had to solo all the 10 tracks and then bounce the range to disk. This is not a big deal at all as there are several workarounds (although it would be helpful for making stems). It's just that the presence of the solo button that does nothing on a bus track baffled me so I assumed it was a bug :-)

Not a real problem though.

Thanks very much
