Summary0002861: Jumpy looping with jack transport
DescriptionWhen looping a segment with positional sync source set to JACK, the playback is fine until the cursor reaches the end of the segment. At that point the playback stops for a fraction of a second before the segment is played from the begining. At that time the looping button is briefly turned off and the stop button is highlighted before the looping button is highlighted again. This creates a click and a slip in time, making looping unusable for practice or recording in layers. Sometimes, the playback simply stops by itself after a few repetitions.

At a closer look it seems as if the cursor goes from begining to end of the segment, then wraps around and starts again from the begining, but gets interrupted and sent back to the begining again.

This jumpiness affects all programs in the jack transport (e.g. Hydrogen). Flipping time master on or off does not change the behavior. Changing frames/sample rate/periods in jack, does not make a difference.

When the positional sync source is set to Internal, everything works smoothly (except that you cannot control Hydrogen of course).

Ardour version: 2.5 (3525)

JACK does not support seamless looping at this time. This behaviour will not change until JACK does.
