| Summary | 0000277: Recording automation pegs CPU and misbehaves on playback | ||||
| Description | Set to record panning automation on a single track by selecting "write" from the automation record drop down. Works fine for about 2 minutes. Then, CPU load will jump up to 50%+ for a few seconds, fall back down, and then repeat jumping up to 50%+. After about another minute, the CPU usage will jump to near 100%, and playback of audio will start skipping, although jackd reports no xruns. After about another 30 seconds, jackd will start reporting xruns. If allowed to continue another minute or so, jackd will disconnect ardour. Upon playing back the recorded panning automation, it may seem to playback fine. However, the track does not always pan correctly, the panning should move but it doesn't. It seems like once the panning stops following the recorded automation, it no longer works at all, even if you move the playback head to part of the session where the automation had previously worked. Once, I attempted to adjust an inflection point on the panning automation track. When playing back the automation, the CPU load went to near 100%. Upon hitting stop, ardour had recorded thousands of new automation inflection points, even though it was not set to record automation. Even if it was set to record automation, it shouldn't have recorded thousands of points all in a straight line. ardour compiled from 24feb2004 CVS snapshot Ardour/GTK 0.450.3 running with libardour 0.726.0 Also experienced same problem with ardour CVS snapshot from 20feb2004. Session was originally recorded with this version. jackd version 0.94.0 | ||||
| Additional Information | Panning automation has worked fine for me in the past, although the last time I played with automation ardour had an "arec" button instead of the current drop down. | ||||

The cause of this bug is known, and it will be fixed within the next 7 days. It may or may not appear in beta11, which will hopefully appear tomorrow. |
