| Description | I've recently installed Ardour using apt-get as recommended in it's website. The problem is that when I click on the icon that is now in my sound and video floder Ardour won't start, with no message of any kind and will log me out of linux. I then see the gui logon. | ||||

What icon are you talking about? You don't start ardour from the command line? |

Nop I used the icon... in the sort of "Startup Menu" in the folder Sound & Video in RH9 KDE. I tried the command line now and it showed the following error: [ERROR]: No JACK server found.client name: ardour Seems that it has something to do with the JACK config so I will try to see what it is... sorry for the inconvinient... I'm a newbie |

this is a combination of many different things. the most obvious, killing X, has been fixed in paul's codebase as of 2/13 by making ardour call setsid(2) to disconnect it from its parent session (ttygroup). remaining work to fix this will require a GUI-based warning that there is no JACK server (because there is no terminal to send this message to). also, changes coming to JACK will help fix this situation for most users. i will ask for feedback once we release beta10 so that you can test this with a graphically-initiated ardour instance. |

I've already fixed my JACK issue and had started Ardour from the command line succesfully. Anyhow I still get logged out when I try to start it with the icon. Paul, I understand from your bugnote that you want me to try beta10 and then tell you what happens. I'll do it and come back with some feedback. If that is not what you intendeed I'm sorry ;-) |
