| Description | Like Logic, Cubase et al, Ardour should allow the user to have several views/instances of a MIDI track. This is very useful in many case, an example would be: A user wants to separately record components of a drum beat: bass drum, snare, hi-hat etc. Allowing the user to have three views for a MIDI track that outputs to the same place would be very useful, for things like special quantize for each midi region, editability and so on... | ||||

MIDI has no way of storing "several views" and a MIDI track contains, by definition, MIDI. If you want several tracks, use several tracks ;) There are two ways you can do this that make sense: - Use several tracks and set the output of the several tracks to the same destination (a MIDI bus would make sense, once it exists...) - Put your different parts on different channels and edit the channels independently as described. |

Well perhaps I should then file a new request that perhaps more general: to allow several representations of a track (be it midi or audio) that share the same connections but different regions. |
