Hi eno. Can you say what URL you used to download the ardour that you are trying? Thanks, Carl |
I took the one from http://ardour.org/files/releases/Ardour-2.1.dmg This is the MD5: e-nos-computer:~/Desktop eno$ md5 Ardour-2.1.dmg MD5 (Ardour-2.1.dmg) = d8fb7d3fd88e2d0ae5607ebce2c9be5d hope that helps |

While on http://ardour.org/osx_native_release you lamenting the missing support by the OSX community I don't feel very encouraged to support you without a possibility to get to download the current development binaries. The #ardour channel on mibbit.com is completely empty - or did I miss something over there? |
it is not completely empty, but it is very much less occupied by active ardour developers and users than #ardour. in addition i, the lead developer, have been pretty sick all week. when working (and not travelling) i am present in the channel for most of the day (US Eastern time zone). in addition, because the channel is much emptier, the timezone & work hours effect is much more obvious - there are a couple of other active people there but they are generally only around for a short time on any given day, and may not overlap with your timezone at all. next, you did not ever download an X11-free version of Ardour for OS X. We have not and will never release the "native" version as a DMG. The DMG package has always and will always be an X11-based version. Native versions will always be zip-based packages. The OS X software development community seems to have expressed a preference for zip packaging over the last couple of years, though DMGs are still useful in many cases. The topic for the IRC channel provide the correct URL's on any given day for Intel-native, PPC-native and Universal-X11 packages. That topic is presented by most IRC readers whenever you connect to the channel, including the web-based mibbit interface. If your IRC app doesn't show the topic, you should get one that does, because most channels display important information there. Did you imagine that you were being directed to a place where there was no information available unless a human was around to notice? I guess to some people the IRC "way" is very strange ... |

Hey paul, I didn't wanted to be rude. And yes, I really appreciate your efforts... However, just today I had a moment (in fact, a spare hour or so), when I thought I could provide you with feedback on arour on my X11-less tiger system. However, then I found that a) I couldn't download any version (neither .dmg nor .zip) b) didn't find noone to ask for anything on the #ardour channel and c) at least mibbit does not show you the topic of a channel. One might have to use one of those strange IRC commands I can never remember for more then 10 minutes. Being a developer myself I thought I could support you by giving some qualified responses from a test run on my X11-less Tiger system. However, I don't plan on build a binary myself (I am long enough in the industry to know that building a software package for the first time can and usually is a tedious task). Besides, building a package on some machine usually does compromise that system for testing :) If you want you can send me an URL where I would find a binary. Otherwise I only can sit back and wait for the next release... |

mibbit *does* show the topic, as soon as you connect. it is a little confusing, because it shows up after some (recorded) recent chatter from the channel. in the case of #ardour-osx, it says: ardour is 2.3.1 is released | NEW OS X USERS PLEASE READ http://ardour.org/first_time_osx_native | OS X Intel http://ardour.org/files/releases/Ardour2.3-Intel-3128a.zip | OS X PPC http://ardour.org/files/releases/Ardour2.3-PPC-3096.zip | | X11 version (universal) http://ardour.org/files/releases/Ardour-2.3.1.dmg |

I am going to set this issue to resolved as the package was incorrect anyways, and there is no longer an X11 version to get confused on anyways. If there are any complaints please post with them in the next week or so, otherwise I will be resolving and closing this issue in about a week. As Paul mentioned, there is usually someone around the ardour channels, but not always at all times, and rarely do we keep the screen open and are not doing anything else to respond immediatly, so please wait there for a response if at all possible if you don't get one right away. Paul is right in that sometimes it has taken me 15 minutes to notice someone asking for help because I am busy on my machine doing other things and the window is not always on top. Seablade |
