Summary0001790: Problems with TAP plugins
DescriptionI really like Toms Audio Plugins, especially the TAP equalizer. But (as reported on toms website), the plugin crashes/misbehaves when the incoming signal is empty. As a consequence Ardour suffers from it, especially when a track is playing an empty track and when using the pitch-wheel.

I don't know if this can be classed as an ardour bug. On the one hand I agree that programs should try to be resilient against in external software eg. plugins, but on the other I realise that LADSPA doesn't require host programs to do any kind of denormal protection.

I totally agree that TAP plugins and many others *do* have denormal issues, at least with certain CPUs or compilers. In many cases the developers of the plugins don't have the affected CPUs. These problems have existed for years and I hope I can find time to find and fix the affected plugins once and for all, since I can easily reproduce the problems on my machine and think I should be capable of learning LADSPA.

In the meantime I'd recommend the 'single band parametric' plugin instead of TAP's equalisers. You'll need more of them, but they do the job.

turn on DC Bias denormal compensation under the Options menu. this will fix the issue in most cases.
