Summary0001365: Can the project admin install WebSVN
DescriptionGreetings:

Can the project admin install WebSVN (http://websvn.tigris.org/) for browsing the subversion repository?

It will enable testers like me to more easily track changes that have been made to the code.

For example, I can track the forum thread http://ardour.org/node/465 where the Summer of code developer working on the MIDI implementation (dave) mentions that he is going to update the changes with a more current version of the trunk.

With websvn, it is a breeze to verify if this has happened and I can continue testing.

I have installed this tool for my own repository and it has been used often with wonderful results.

Please seriously consider this request. Let me know if I can help make this happen in some way.

Thanks.

it requires updated version of subversion, which are controlled by dreamhost (the hosting service we use for ardour.org). although we could go down the path of installing a private copy, at this point in time, we consider this too much work to be worthwhile. not that we don't want what websvn offers ... it would be very very nice to have web access working again.

Dreamhost finally upgraded to subversion-1.3.2. So this should be much easier.

I've installed websvn at http://viewcvs.ardour.org. I might install something more fancy at a later date.

Greetings taybin:

Can you enable the "tarball downloads" in websvn config file? This will allow users who want to test the development branches (in my case the MIDI branch) to be able to quickly grab a copy of the source to compile and test for integration into the trunk.

Also, can you update the subversion link on the downloads and development pages to point to http://viewcvs.ardour.org for web access to the repository because links there currently still point to the raw repository link http://subversion.ardour.org/svn/ardour2/trunk.

Thanks.

I think that anyone who has trouble using subversion will have an even harder time compiling ardour.

Also, since we have frequent updates to the SVN tree, using subversion will prevent people from having to download the entire tarball every time there is a change.
