actually, we plan to add a *lot* of stuff to the track control header immediately post-2.0. this includes meters, gain fader, maybe more. they will only appear if the track height makes it feasible to display them. do you think that a vertical meter is preferable to a horizontal one, given that the aspect ratio of the track control area is horizontal and thus could offer more room (i.e. resolution) for a horizontal meter? |

Technically the horizontal meter makes more sense, but to my mind the vertical meter is easier to look at and read/understand......but only just ! That is, however, just a personnel preference. Would it be possible to have it configurable ? |

OK I've been thinking about this a bit more. The vertical meter would be visible on all sizes of track. At large track sizes you get a nice big high res meter, as the track is set smaller and smaller the meter gets smaller but this is still useful even at the smallest track size. At its smallest the meter would act more as a signal present indication, black with no signal, green with signal, and a bit of added red at the top when the signal becomes too hot. With a horizontal meter a decision has to be made as to what track size and below the meter is no longer visible. So, fine with large track sizes but the end result is no meter at all at some track sizes. The advantage I suppose is that at the track sizes that the horizontal meter is shown at, one always has the same resolution meter. My preference is for some sort of meter across all track sizes rather than just on some. |
