Summary0001005: Plugins cause tracks to become silent
DescriptionArdour 0.9beta29

FC2 CCRMA 2.6.11-0.3

I start a new session and add a couple of stereo tracks. I then insert a new plugin, either pre or post fader to one or all of the tracks. I usually pick stereo reverb or the 10 band EQ Ladspa plugins. I will also insert a 10-band EQ plugin to the master track post fader. I do some recording and tweaking and then save the session.

When I later re-open the session for editing I find the plugins cause problems. They will cause the tracks to become silent. So I have to go through the ritual of deactivating the plugin, cut it, paste it back in and then activate it. Once I do this for each track (including the master) I can get sound. When I edit the plugins I find their individual settings have been saved, I must cut and paste them to get them to work again.

Thanks for the great work!!

Brad.

I couldn't duplicate this issue. Could you provide a step-by-step duplication guide, starting from creating the session?

I have noticed this problem, but only recently linked it to plugins. Sometimes when I load up a session my speakers will only produce a 'pop' noise when trying to produce sound in ardour (playing, seeking, editing plugin parameters). When this happens, starting the ardour transport and then skipping to the end marker and back again seems to clear the problem.
It seems to be related to plugins in that manipulating certain tracks (such as arming them for record) can cause the problem to return. If I remove the plugins from that track the problem goes away.
I have tested this with current cvs and beta29. It is a nasty issue because it seems to suddenly pop up for apparently no reason at all on certain sessions after minor changes, such as plugin parameter or audio position changes. It seems to be a fairly deep-rooted problem, I wouldn't like to have to fix this one...

The 'pop' is another issue. If it's not on mantis, please make a new report on it.

On this issue: you could try to duplicate this issue with other plugins than the 10 band eq and stereo rever. The other plugins should be used as you have previously used these plugins. The other plugins have to have equal input & output ports to the 10 band eq and stereo reverb. As: replace 10 band eq with another 1/1 plugin, and replace the stereo reverb with another 2/2 plugin.

There are known issues with some plugins that cause some of this behavior, but unfortuanatly as the problem is in the plugin itself, we can't do much to fix it in Ardour. So I am resolving this issue out.
