Would it be possible to reserve space for the buffer percentages, so the label doesn't change size every time a digit is added / removed?

I tried a simple %3d in the format string, but the spaces end up taking less space than a digit with the default proportional font.

Care should also be taken to keep the label's length reasonable. Current SVN gives me a minimal window width of about 1280 pixels and the label is already very close to the menu titles. Suggestion: Add a GtkStatusBar which can be disabled in the preferences to save screen space.

EDIT: Actually, be removing the transport and "main options" toolbar from the window, it can shrink down to about 1250 pixels wide, which is then caused by the status label.

Thanks for doing this. Some observations though.

1) The elements still change size when the values changes, ie DSP goes from 100% to 99%, every thing on the line moves. I find this really irritating.

2) The colours are a bit bright on that background. I think the background needs to be black, or maybe the same colour as the selection widget, like the mockup, and the colours made slightly darker. The lime green and red I find too bright to be legible. Again, maybe make the fonts the same size as those in the selection widget.

The jumping about should be fixed in SVN 10294.

SVN 10296 adds a menu over the status bar from which parts of it can be shown / hidden.

The menu is nice, thanks! How do I get back the info bar after disabling all elements? Could this go into the preferences?

The label alignment and sizes could be more sophisticated but this will do fine IMHO.

EDIT: Apparently it is not fine, see 0004433.

Given that 0004433 is now resolved, could this be marked resolved too?
