Summary | 0007308: feat. request: Move window with MB3
Description | Sometimes I spontaneously try to move the window right or left in editor by using the third mouse button (MB3) -I mean the button under the wheel of the mouse. I'll really like to have this this in ardour, as I like the "wheel zoom" in the ruler zone. I think it the same way: 1- click MB3 in the ruler 2- move right or left 3- more you move away from where you click, more the window moves fast. That will be really intuitive, I think, and really add something to the work-flow (like wheel zoom). With this feature we can really move slow and faster easily and quickly. Personally I need this. Thank you.

mouse-button 3 is right-click, that'd interfere with various other actions. Most Operating Systems/Window Managers allow to configure Mouse-Button 2 (middle-button) to switch the mouse into X/Y (2D) pan mode while the button is held. In some cases this is also hardware or firmware supported (e.g macbook touchpad, Thinkpad TrackPoint,...) |

Ah, sorry, I confused! I don't mean right-click, I mean the "scroll-wheel click" (when you press the scroll-wheel). So yes, Mouse-Button 2 (middle-button). About "window", maybe I was not clear, I mean the editor view, not the entire window. What I want is to move in the session, as I described. |

yep. press+hold the middle button and the view scrolls left/right up/down. ..just like a 2 finger swipe X/Y on a touchpad. PS. It acts like a horizontal/vertical scroll and in Ardour's editor cases scrolls the timeline. This feature is usually OS or Desktop or Hardware provided and not application specific. |

Thx for #irc support x42! After used the outdated gpointing-device-settings with old ubuntu (better not use it), I finally found it for 16.04 using this tips: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/101867/make-mouse-movements-scroll-when-the-middle-button-is-held-down?noredirect=1&lq=1 Really pleasant feature! |
