Summary0009503: Enabling loop playback disables punch recording, but disabling loop doesn't bring it back.
DescriptionAs in summary. Loop is transport mode. If you turn loop on, the punch in/out icons are greyed out, so punch recording is unavailable (by the way: why? This would be useful...).
But if you switch loop mode off, the punch recording is still grayed out :( but it shouldn't be, I think. The only way to bring it back is restart Ardour. Maybe reloading session would help but I not tried this.

NOTE: the punch recording can be re-enabled by start/stop playback.

Just another comment on disabling punch recording in loop mode.

ardour.org/features.html, section "Flexible Recording":
Quote: "Punch in/out points can be set in a multitude of ways, and can be combined with loop playback".
So I guess this functionality once existed. So why it does not exist anymore? Please bring it back or remove this statement from your site.... cause this is not true (anymore).

'This is must have for any workflow', ...... When evaluating the use of DAW for multitrackrecording during rehearsal, we came across this nice DAW Ardour. It does not take long to find out that there should be the feature to take multiple snapshots for part of the track in combined loop/Punch mode. For this scenario it is important, that 'punch IN/OUT' an be configured to be within the loop and there might be some time before and after the PUNCH points. This is important not to say necessary for musicians workflow to detect when loop restarts so they can accomodate, and not overdub things that they dont want.

Saying this, this is a BASIC FEATURE, that should get priority for a fix.

Note: Commercial products like C* have this in Pro mode, in the basic free mode you get with PUNCH IN/OUT at the edges of the Loop only.
This indicates that it is important, isn't it? You get something for free, that acts like a workaround, and when you pay for, you get what is meaningful and necessary - which is ok
