| Description | It's just frustrating to have to browse around all the categories or developers in the plugin creation menu, to find the right plugin you want. Often a plugin is in a wrong category. Why are some plugins seriously labeled "plugins", while others are "instruments" or "filters" etc.? I mean, I know that a plugin is a plugin. This is probably clear to all of us users. It's kind of redundant to be informed about that:D It's like you play a car racing game and all the cars are just named "car":D So I think the plugin-manager should give you control over editing the categories of all the plugins as you like. And to give them custom flags and notes. For example you could add the flags "monophonic", "polyphonic", "onboard fx" (and more) to a "Noize Mak3r" and/or add the note "good for basslines". So you could filter even those custom flags. ItThen the plugin-manager would be a real plugin-manager. And in the case it doesn't work, when JACK is running, because of crashes or freezes... Maybe there also could be a standalone plugin-manager, also. So, that you even could edit your plugins, when ardour is not running. All of that would be way better, than just having "favorites plugins". Because if you have favorites, then you just have all of them and no groups by categories. So please extend the plugin-manager. | ||||

Yes, but not only for the favorites. So for example think of the "Calf Studio Plugins". All of them are literally categorized as "plugins"-plugins (which is actually stupid to be honest). Imagine if you could change this by yourself as you want. Imagine if you could change a "Calf Filter" from being a "plugin"-plugin to a "Filter"-plugin or a "Calf Reverb" from being a "plugin"-plugin to a "Reverb"-plugin. This would affect the whole "add plugin"-menu. So not only the favorites, but also the "by category"-option. Maybe it also would further be possible to have an option, whether you want to activate or deactivate "favorites being grouped by category". Also, it would be cool to give every category an unique color coding. So that not all of the plugins in a channel are just red. Maybe the plugin-manager could be extended by this feature as well. So maybe you somehow associate equalizers with red or blue or yellow or whatever, then you could set this category to the most convenient color four yourself. So you would immediately see what kinds of plugins are in which channel, without having to read their whole names. But still, it also would be helpful to be able to use aliases for plugins as well. |
