It depends a lot of the system font, menu bars and window decorations.

Here it works just fine on 1024x768 with maybe ~50 vertical px to spare (only bottom menu bar, small window decorations) with Times 10pt as default desktop font.

In most cases the limiting factor is the editor-mixer strip (menu > View > Show editor mixer)

Alternatively you can change the Ardour GUI scale in Preferences > GUI to make it fit.

I have this problem with 5.12 using eOS.
My resolution is 1366 by 768
GUI and font scaling does not do anything.
The maximize button is not shone.

If I separate the windows, or show full screen this works.
Is there something to fix this on EOS. I filed a bug on Gala (Elementary).

regarding "GUI and font scaling does not do anything"
Is this Ardour from ardour.org or a build from eOS?

I am a one time member and downloaded by ardour invoice ID. Gui scaling inside ardour was recommended to fix this.
I can make the gui scaling so small I cannot read it, but still no Max button and it does not show the whole screen. I still have a 5.9 lyog around. I will check. I don't remember this bug.
