bnd txt domain [gtk2_ardour3] to /usr/share/locale
Ardour3.5.308~dfsg-1 (built using 3.5.308~dfsg-1 and GCC version 4.8.2)

Hardware:

ASUS K52J laptop.

Operating system:

Ubuntu Studio 14.04 beta 2 AMD64

unfa@unfa-K52Jc:~$ uname -a
Linux unfa-K52Jc 3.13.0-24-lowlatency 0000046-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Thu Apr 10 19:40:23 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Brief description:

Ardour frequently crashes while trying to load a session.

I made a test and here are the results:

I launched Ardour 3 from console, double clicked my session "Heartbeat" to load it. If it succeeded I then closed Ardour by triggering it's internal quit function (pressing Ctrl+Q or chosing "Quit" from main menu, or using "X" button in the window decoration)

Results for 20 trials in a row:

40% (8/20) - success with loading the session and exiting
30% (6/20) - crash with Segmentation Fault on loading "double free or corruption"
20% (4/20) - crash with Segmentation Fault on loading "double linked"
10% (2/20) - successful session loading, but Ardour freezes when quitting

This gives 50% of success of loading a session.

Of course the probe is quite small, but it already shows some major trouble.

Session download:

I'm including the full session for you to inspect (224 MB):
http://unfamusic.com/5h1+/unfa-Heartbeat-Ardour3-session.tar.gz
I release the above file only for Ardour development purposes.
If in doubt, please contact me via unfa /at/ unfamusic /dot/ com.

Different sessions have different trouble while loading. Maybe their content has some contribution to this, maybe it's about plugins, IDK.
Additional InformationDuring the statistical test I haven't seen another problem I had before.

While trying to load a session, Ardour displayed "Recover from crash?" dialog window. Then, regarldess of what I chose ("recover" or "ignore") the loading failed with a message "Session could not be loaded". After this the session dialog opened again, I tried loading another session - it never succeeded after the initial failure (ended with a crash or hangup - not sure).
