DescriptionHI; tried AU plugins:
Garritan personal orchestra ( GPO ) + Miroslav Philarmonik :
how to : new MIDI track created with instrument option or after track been created, adding the plugin
-> crash when double clic on plug to view and edit.
other plugins:
quick test with sample tank: same crash
quick test with Kontakt 5: seems OK, could edit
quick test with Pianoteq :OK

Seems to be a duplicate of the bug I reported at http://tracker.ardour.org/view.php?id=5475, it also affects other plugins besides MIDI instruments.

yes, maybe a duplicate; but Ive included the crash report in a private note for more technical infos.

as a second solution, Ive routed 2 Plugins ( Miroslav Philarmonik + GPO ) thru jack; ( instead of instrument plugins in MIDI tracks) ...
for test:
1 stereo audio track receiving the outs of Miroslav Philarmonik thru jack + 4 midi tracks
1 stereo audio track eceiving the outs of GPO thru jack + 4 midi tracks

if somebody can try asimilar way, it could be interesting, because I dont get the same result twice , with the same routing - > things are lost)....

with the same MIDI routing basis: GPO is OK, but Miroslav Philarmonik not accessible

finally a little solution for AU plugins:
1 or more IAC ports
1 or more AU plugin(s) with audio out routed thru jack
1 or more audio track(s) in Ardour3 receiving these audio signals
1 or more MIDI track(s) recorded and edited in Ardour3

 sorry Paul, this solution is without pretension;
my goal was to use 2 AU Plugins, and as its impossible in MIDI tracks without crash, I had to find another solution.
 you know my first experience with Jack, coming from another recording soft, but now Ive made a few steps in this routing concept ;-)

--to be short: in IAC : add x busses in port , with a name to find them in the standalone opened Plugins ( in my case/ GPO+ Miroslav Philarmonik)
( first thing to open is jack and launch it, so the Plugins " find " the jack option )
after, in Ardour add x MIDI tracks and x audio tracks
whats a little bit tricky is in and out routing of each MIDI and audio tracks...
if needed, I can send a few screenshots.... but again, without any pretension

 This will only work with plugins that can run standalone then right? Or plugins inserted into an external AU host, with the audio routed through jack into that host.

if you can see the plugin outside Ardour, and if you have access to the routing thru Jack in prefs, it should be OK

 as I understand in my tests: 2 important things :
you must have enough IAC busses, and launch Jack before adding the different things

 yes, the next step is routing in Ardour ( for each track IN and OUT ) with matrix
but it works , Ive tested different routings

This is more working around the issue then. The AU versions of the plugins will still cause A3 to crash.

I had to find a solution to use plugins that crash " inside" Ardour , before Paul and his staff writing the soft find a solution...
