Summary0002764: Crash on inserting SWH Multiband EQ
DescriptionCreate or open a session, right click on a plugin area and navigate to Steve Harris's plugins in the menu, click on the multiband eq plugin. Ardour crashes.

Can't reproduce this on Linux. However the multiband EQ does have a buffer overrun in it, which may be causing the crash. I'll mail swh about it.

seems to be restricted to/caused by the FFT code in various plugins.

the specific problem case here shows up in fftw3f_rdft_solve(), during initializeMbeq, which is the instantiation function for this plugin.

this is caused by an error in all swh plugins and several other LADSPA plugin collections. the plugin(s) are relying on an old unix convention that shared libraries that contain a function called _init() will have that function executed when they are loaded. linux has moved away from this as the recommended method, but still supports it; OS X has completely removed it.

fixing this requires code modification to the plugins and compiling and using new versions.

as shown by paul, this is not an ardour issue. afaiu, there is also no obviousl way to make ardour robust against such plugin bugs, because they are part of ardour's process - if they segfault, ardour gets killed.
